A good book for beginners and the more aware Jock

    PREFACE.
Having been frequently asked, during the last twenty-five years, for
information and advice concerning Mediumship and its Development, we
have constantly felt the want of a suitable handbook which we could
recommend to inquirers and to those who were developing their own
mediumistic powers, or assisting in the development of others. As this
need has grown more and more pressing with the increasing number of
investigators into Spiritualism, we have endeavored to produce a clear,
practical, and serviceable ‘Guide,’ embodying the most comprehensive
explanations and the best counsel that we are able, to give, derived from
our own experiences and inspirations, and from those of other writers,
    both English and American.
We have found it advisable to divide this ‘Guide’ into three distinct
parts, and, although this arrangement has compelled us to present matters
from different points of view, we feel assured that our readers will
recognize the advantages that have been gained by the separate
consideration of the many problems involved.
Commending this work to the kindly consideration of Spiritualists, and
to the thoughtful study of inquirers, we send it forth to the world, with,
we trust, the blessings of the angels, in the hope that it may prove helpful
to many of our brothers and sisters who are seeking for ‘Light, more Light.’
    E. W. AND M. H. Wallis.

  4. It is good news the PN is to survive but at what cost to all spiritualists it is financed by the JV trust and I am not convinced it fully complies with the trusts aim. The PN will not be an independent paper as it is claimed YES it will be independent of the SNU however the policies will be controlled by the owners that is the trustees of the trust. It is already evident by a lot of the comments allowed on the SPN site there is an anti SNU and an anti David Thompson campaign and I feel this could spill over in to the PN itself. I am not happy with David Thompson’s healing ethics however I advise any-one who wishes to attend his séances to go and make up their own mind for themselves. I am a class B member of the SNU have been an office bearer of an SNU church and served on the SIDC for four years and I do not agree with a lot the NEC are doing due to an Anglican Church based influence within it (you only have to look at their plans for minister-ship of the SNU to see that) however there are a lot of gems within the movement to compensate. I have a question how is it the trust can finance this venture to support the PN yet I have not heard of any other spiritualist paper that gets the same support L&L Jock

    In reply to Jock McArthur:

Jock, thank you for your comment. There is no greater supporter of editorial independence than Minister Eric Hatton. His fellow trustees Hugh and Margaret Davis take the same view. For this reason they have expressed a wish to have no involvement whatsoever in the running of Psychic News. They have cemented this commitment by creating a completely separate company and have invited me as managing director to appoint its other directors. These are Roy Stemman (chairman) and Paul Brett (ordinary director). Only one person will have editorial control: me.

Today, on SPN, we have published an extensive article on the latest chapter in the long history of Psychic News. It should answer many of your other points. If not, feel free to post a further comment and I will gladly respond to it.

    Sue

  6. Psychic World Newspaper is an independent monthly Spiritualist publication. The first Psychic World Newspaper was published in 1946. Founded by Maurice Barbanell, it had a chequered history, finally ceasing publication in 1951. The title was later resurrected in 1993 and published intermittently until September 1994 when the publication was taken over by Ray Taylor former editor of The Two Worlds Magazine and Here and There. Psychic World started republishing with the January issue in 1995 and is now the only independent Spiritualist publication.

The new Editor (Ray Taylor) had a vast collection of Spiritualist books, magazines and papers, and in amongst this collection was five copies of the original Psychic World from 1947, that he had acquired in the 1980s. Tipping his hat to Psychic World founder (Maurice Barbanell), Ray lifted a copy of the original Psychic World logo and it is the emblem that the Newspaper still use in the top right hand corner of the front page today. Ray Taylor died in December 2009, but his name appears each month in the Editorial of Psychic World under the category of OUR EDITOR IN SPIRIT. The new Editor in Office is Ray’s daughter Candy Taylor, who has continued her father’s work.

The most noteworthy writers for Psychic World include:

    Michael Colmer (Assistant editor).

    Dave Robinson (New Age).

    Stephen O¹Brien (Mediumship).

    Andrew Green (ghost hunter).

    Matthew P Hutton (paranormal investigator).

Wendy Stokes (New Age and paranormal investigator).

It was Psychic World which first revealed the story of Helen Duncan in the September 1997 issue and the news spread around the world. Psychic World Newspaper is trying to get her a pardon, and progress on the campaign is reported in the newspaper.

  7. Dear Mr Mc Carthur,

Before you comment on my healing ethics publicly maybe you should attend a healing session to experience them instead of making comments about something you have no idea about.

    David Thompson
In reply to the above I have attended your healing sessions and what I witnessed you doing to a poor old lady with hip problems broke every healing code there is.
    L&L Jock

  8. Well Jock Mc Carthur,

I have only your word to except that you have attended one of our healing sessions, and on past postings on other websites, your word does seem a bit unreliable to say the least!!

To make the comments like you have, I should imagine you have followed up the healing case you have sited to see if the mystery lady recieved any benifit? or is this all just your assumption?

To make public statements about peoples mediumistic abilities is not only damageing and hurtful to the individual but also to Spiritualism and the spirit world, I often wonder if these people consider their words or if it is merely an expression of their egos or maybe even jealousy?

A man of your years of experiance I would have thought you would have understood that, obviously not! which I find a shame and find myself questioning your motives behind your comments about my healing and your association with people who so blatantly have an axe to grind.

    Regards

    David Thompson

  9. Good-day Mr Thompson it would be nice of you if you could use my correct name which is Jock McArthur as to the mystery lady I did follow up on her progress and she did have her hip replaced.
The main objection I have is the way you manhandled the lady then you advised her she would not need an operation and there was no need to consult her doctor
I feel the rest of your post to be a little terse however I have left it on warts and all for others to comment on. As to the bulk of your message the words of the maxim [the lady protests too much] comes to mind or in your case the Gentleman
    Best Regards Jock

    “Where Science and Spirit meet”

    Friday January 20th 2012 to Friday 27th (7 days)

Join us this week on an experimental course organized by the Friends of Stansted Hall, designed to challenge the student to grasp the deeper aspects of Consciousness, the Brain and its spiritual function in the mediumistic state We look forward to welcoming guest experts on Scientific discoveries, Psychiatry and Parapsychology as well as established tutors in the fields of modern Mediumship training. We will explore states of consciousness in Physical/trance and Evidential mediumship by some of the UK’S best exponents of Mediumship.
Students will get the chance to assist guest researchers in understanding Mediumship in its different forms, by taking part in experimental seances and test readings alongside established mediums. Does Mediumship work better in a group or individually ? What is the scientific basis that makes one person an evidential medium and another a trance medium? We even attempt to give clarity in the Psychiatric differences between the Clairaudient and the Schizophrenic The Spiritual visionary, With lots of practical sessions on Your own development, tutorials and experimental evenings, we plan to go back to the original intention of Psychic research of the early 20th century, uniting Science, Mysticism and Spiritualism to become true explorers of consciousness, bringing this forward into the 21st century Mediums understanding of their Craft.

  11. To all members just a short report on a wonderful week all the students and tutors had it truly was inspiring. I have to say a Big thankyou to the Circle of the Silver Cord David Thompson as medium excelled in his work. I have sat with him in the past and he has come on leaps an bounds. We had two seances for the students and asked they did not tell there partners till following the 2nd one. I will only comment on one item per seance 1st Extoplasium was seen in Red light pouring down davids front thickly and looked like Santa Clauses Beard, the 2nd was a visit by Gordon Higginson who spoke to myself and 3 others we all recalled his voice and he used our names. Their were many other things that occurred during both evenings my message is were going to do it all again next year 2013 so please take a note of our web site http://www.friendsofstanstedhall.com details we hope to post by March many thanks to those who were able to attend Ken .

  12. Further reports say the red light was only used for 20 seconds in MrThompsons seance, it seems the rest was held in complete darkness It seems nothing has altered.
    Maybe one day Jock

  13. http://psychicnews.subhub.com/content/respected-snu-minister-resigns
Please have a look there is no need to subscribe to read this alarming news

In a move which is unlikely to bring much comfort to the upper echelons of the Spiritualists’ National Union (SNU), one of its ordained ministers has resigned, writes Susan Farrow.

Margaret Preece has been closely associated with the popular and successful Paignton Spiritualist Church and Centre for some twenty-five years. She has served the SNU in various capacities at both local and national levels and was ordained a minister in 2008.

Hello friends it is not so long ago the NEC of the SNU wanted to place a procedure in place so the NEC could dismiss a member of the NEC by a majority vote by the NEC. This was voted out at the AGM and rightly so, now we have a church trying to do the same thing. It is unfortunate this lady has fell foul of the rules however more research should have been made by the committee or an EGM called to resolve the situation. Even at this late date this could still be done by the members it is up to them to do it no-0ne else can. Jock McArthur

    • Minister Margaret Preece
A Statement from the SNU President
      06th February 2012
      David Bruton OSNU

It is with great regret that I have to inform you of the resignation from membership of Minister Margaret Preece from the South Western District Council. Margaret has served both Spiritualism and the Union over many years and I know her to be a principled and honourable lady, who has certainly contributed much to the Ministry since her ordination in 2008. Every attempt was made to ask Margaret to reconsider her decision and, knowing her, I am sure she has not arrived at this decision lightly; sadly, she feels unable to continue in her present role within the Union, which will be a great loss to her Church in Paignton, the District, the Union, the wider movement and especially her Ministry, which has taken her into her local Inter-faith group and educational establishments in and around the Paignton area.

Complaints arising from Paignton Church have suggested that the Union has not acted correctly in dealing with the actions of the Church Committee. Investigations, as part of the complaints procedure, have revealed that the actions the Committee took to remove one of its number were in fact outside the provision of the Rules for Churches and so on appeal the member was reinstated. The Rules are provided to protect both the Church and its individual members and if they are followed they afford both protection and natural justice for all parties involved and a fair hearing which affords everybody their right to express their opinions. The very nature of complaints involves both the actions and feelings of individuals and once the process has been satisfactorily completed it should be closed and people move on. It is neither fair nor appropriate to either party to re-rehearse the issues surrounding a complaint on the floor of a general meeting or in any other forum considered suitable by those with an axe to grind who are unhappy with the outcome.

A working party was established late last year to look at our current complaints procedure and recommendations have been made to the National Executive Committee which will be implemented when the necessary support systems and training have been put in place. However, this will not in any way change the underlying principles of a system which seeks to deal fairly with all parties to a complaint and provide them with the right to a fair hearing operated within the constitution of both the Union and its Churches and the provisions of the legal system here in the United Kingdom.

In conclusion, I would like to wish Margaret well for the future, confident that her knowledge and philosophy of Spiritualism will both inform and support her in all her future endeavours
